A floating IP is an address you can move between servers. The Floating IPs screen lists yours, each showing its type and which server (if any) it's assigned to.
Creating a floating IP
Tap Create (read/write connections), then choose:
- Type —
ipv4oripv6. - Location — the region.
- Description (optional).
- On Microsoft Azure, a resource-group chooser appears first.
Assigning and moving
- An unassigned IP shows Assign… — pick a server to point it at.
- An assigned IP shows Unassign to release it. To move it, unassign then assign again.
Deleting
Tap Delete and confirm — this permanently releases the address and cannot be undone.
If actions are missing
Create, Assign, Unassign and Delete appear only on a read/write connection where the provider supports them.
